project: Education
Meet Nicolson. He's an ordinary kid like any other teenager you know. He has friends, family, success and trials, hopes and dreams. He also happens to have grown up extremely poor. An education can be a great pathway to achievement and escape from the cycle of generational poverty. For most children in Haiti an education is not free and we believe that every child should be educated.
City of Lights Coffee Co. sponsored schooling for 40 students primary educaiton in the Beaudouin community for the 2019-2020 school year. This sponsorship includes the total cost of the annual tuition, a back pack full of school supplies and any other school related fees. This year we intend to do the same.
The average cost for all of this per student is $75 per year. Purchases and donations to City of Lights Coffee Co. go directly to pay for this endeavor. This cost should encourage us to give more to the education and empowerment of people less financially advantaged than ourselves. Rather than appeal to your pity, we'd like you to share in our excitement and true happiness found in giving to the future of these precious children; as Jesus taught, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).

In Haiti, both public and private schools cost money to attend. City of Lights paid for forty students from the Beaudouin community to attend school for the 2019-2020 school year.
Shortly after the Fall Term began, Haiti erupted into massive protests which shut down every major city across the country. Business and schools were shut down for around three months. One student recounted how things were just beginning to stabilize in their life and education when schools shut down again because of the Coronavirus quarantine.
Our own quarantine and school shut-downs in the US have allowed us to taste how disruptive national and global events can be for children's education and development.
Nevertheless, our Education Project students are encouraged and excited that they had the opportunity to attend school for at least part of this year.
One student, Sylab Wilson sent the following message to all City of Lights customers:
"Thank you very much for what you did for me. I would not have gone to school this year if it weren't for City of Lights...I'm praying that God will continue to bless you and keep you so that you can continue to help."
Would you follow in Sylab's example and take the time to pray for the training and future for a few of these precious children by name?

Another student named Jules Lukensia wrote,
"I want to thank everyone in the Lord for supporting me in my schooling. I would love to fill your hearts with joy the way you've filled mine.
I would also like to thank you very much for choosing me and making a sacrifice for me especially, I hope I can always receive this kind of support."
Another student, Jean Renald, said:
"This is the best gift my parents and I could have gotten!"
Isn't it wonderful to hear from students who are so appreciative of the opportunity to learn!

Would you take a few minutes and pray for a few of these children? Here are some requests:
-
Pray they would be able to return to school and finish the 2019-2020 school year
-
Pray that Haiti would be spared the devastation that this pandemic has unleashed on many other countries and that the students and their families would remain well
-
Pray that quarantine would not limit their access to food and water supplies
-
Pray that they would seek the Lord in this time of difficulty and that He would bless their futures.
